So, this morning we were heading out. I spotted a bright, red dragonfly in the yard and pointed it out to my daughter, Naomi. She was about to get in the car, then casually walks over to me and says; "Uhm mom, is there something in my hair?" I look up to see a dragonfly perched right on her barrette as if it were an embellishment.
I said, "there's a dragonfly in your hair!" She said, "Uh, could you get it out?” I began trying to shoo it out, but it was entangling itself in her strands. The more I tried to get it out the more enmeshed it became. It ended up holding on and dangling near her face on one strand of hair. I finally got it and it fell to the ground where we then discovered that from above its hind wings down, the body was missing. :-/ Not sure if a bird took a chunk of it or what. He seemed to have just "appeared". We were in a hurry so I put him in one of our habitats so the ants wouldn't eat what was left of him, alive. We came back 2 hours later and I figured he'd have passed-on. I went to remove him from the habitat and he was still alive, but very weak. Having done some research, we found that dragonflies like many other creatures, can regrow there bodies. However, too much of his body was gone and I knew his body wasn’t going to make it.
A few of you that know me personally, know of my consistent interactions with dragonflies due to them having been my dad’s spirit-animal. Today a dragonfly (carrying my dad’s essence) showed up, much like the condition he was in when he passed (physically impaired and no longer able to adequately function). But the Presence of Spirit is never impaired by any seeming physical limitations. We can be witnesses to that if we're tuning in.
To clarify, sometimes a dragonfly is just a dragonfly. Even though my dad always comes to mind when I see one, I don't always feel his essence along for the ride. :-)
Even the slightest shift in our perspectives about what we may conclude to be “real” or “possible”, can make a world of difference in what we experience. There is no separation between the realms occupied by those who’ve passed-on and those of us still inhabiting physical bodies. It's just a change of the spaces we exist in. These spaces are always in communication and connected whether we are presently open to “see” and experience those opportunities of interconnections or not.
Side note: Just last week I bought the supplies to add some hair accessories to my jewelry offerings. Thanks for letting me know you're watching, dad! ;-)
